HORIZONS CLEAN –UP PLANNING TEAM Report

December 2007

Votes from the Blog Question of the Week:  Which type of cleanup did they want the Horizons Team to focus:

Blog Vote:

            Superfund Clean-up 75%

(Clean-up to average 250 ppm in community (EPA/ARCO), not at each site…)

            Town Clean-up/Entrance clean-up 25%

Karen Solberg report from Tri_County area:

Our county receives over 100 complaints each year on junk/weeds/clean-up.

In the other 2 counties, (Granite/Powell) they receive maybe one or two complaints each year, even though all counties have weeds/junk/cleanup issues.

2007 Clean –up week in May:

45 individuals requested pick-ups of white goods (large appliances, furniture, etc)

Local landfill was open 3-5 Wed. – Friday and Saturday morning.

Gas cards were offered to individuals taking loads to Butte/Rocker landfill

Adopt-a-lot: volunteers and organizations adopted over 20 different areas.

Changes for 2008

Karen will call first meeting Feb. 2008 ( need to start earlier to expand efforts and include all who are interested in helping)

Saturday hours = “All Day Open” at our class III landfill, as the ½ day was not enough                                Keep Wed. – Fri.   3-5 pm open

Keep ‘gas cards’ to those Anaconda licenses who take loads to Butte/Rocker landfill – class I  (collect name & address next year for additional drawings)

Ask ‘Grumpy Old Men’ group & others to help monitor at our landfill

Use paid employees to unload, due to liability

Keep pick up by County – 45 pick-ups in 2007/white goods/furniture
